Winter is a great time for a trip to Mexico. As much of the U.S. is seeing its coldest temperatures of the year — or at least its coolest, for much of the South — you can escape to guaranteed warmth, beaches and resorts.
What makes it even better, of course, is when you can find low airfare to do just that.
Los Cabos has all of the above, which goes for travelers hoping to visit Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo, both situated at the southern tip of Baja California in Mexico.
Most of the flights for these deals are for December through March. However, we also found options for an immediate getaway.
If you’ve been looking for the right opportunity to get a just-after-the-new-year trip on the books to a warm destination, this deal to Mexico might be just the one you’ve been hoping for.

Sample flights
We took note of round-trip airfare to Cabo for less than $200. You’ll fly into San Jose del Cabo International Airport (SJD) whether you’re staying in Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo, which are about 20 minutes apart.
For travelers departing from Texas or other southwest cities mentioned in this deal, it’s certainly a nice, short trip.
Here are just a few of the routes and prices we found:
Austin to San Jose del Cabo for $270 on American.
Los Angeles to San Jose del Cabo for $225 on American, Delta, JetBlue or United.
Houston to San Jose del Cabo for $272 on Aeromexico.
San Diego to San Jose del Cabo for $240 on Alaska.
San Francisco to San Jose del Cabo for $298 on Alaska.
There are also some cities from which you may be able to find airfare just a bit above the $300 mark, round-trip.
For instance, we found flights in the $310 to $350 range out of Washington, D.C. Yes, it’s more than the $225 you’d pay out of Los Angeles, but it’s also a much longer flight — and you will often find fares far higher than that.
Speaking of Los Angeles, it’s certainly the best price in this deal; not too surprising considering its proximity to Los Cabos.
You also have the pick of your favorite airline in a lot of cases. For instance, here’s a $223-$226 round trip on JetBlue, Delta, American and Alaska for one itinerary.

There are also options for an immediate getaway. If you can book and pack right away, you could be on your way to Los Cabos aboard United Airlines tomorrow morning.

However, if you’d like a few more days to plan your trip, here’s a way to take advantage of the back end of the Thanksgiving holiday period for $225 round-trip.
Flying aboard Delta Air Lines, you’d depart Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) midmorning on Black Friday. It’s about a 2 1/2-hour flight down to Mexico.
On the return trip, you could maximize your final vacation day with a 3:39 p.m. departure.

You can also find nonstop options out of Austin.
Flying aboard American Airlines for this late February getaway, your outbound and return flights similarly fall on either side of 2 1/2 hours.

Traveling from Houston, you might be on Mexican carrier and SkyTeam partner Aeromexico. That means you’ll almost certainly fly through Mexico City.
On the southbound trip for this early February itinerary, you’ll arrive midmorning in the Mexican capital city and depart for the final leg of your trip by lunchtime. It’s a brief, 85-minute stop in Mexico City on your way back to Texas.

Finally, here’s a short-hop option out of San Diego for just after the new year.
You can maximize both the day you arrive and the day you head home, getting into Los Cabos at 10:20 a.m. after the flight on Alaska Airlines. On the return trip, you won’t leave until after 5 p.m.
